Are employers under any obligation legally to inform employee's of their benefits or lack of benefits?

Well, the employer needs to tell the employee what the contract for work is. That would describe the benefits. Some benefits or rights are required by law (like minimum wage) and require a poster. I'd need some specific information about the benefits that you are concerned with. Usually, they are and should be disclosed.
