Does personal time need to be scheduled in advance in Florida?

Re: employment law
If you work in the private sector (meaning other than for a governmental entity), there is no State law in Florida, and similarly no federal law, that requires an employer to provide "personal time" off. There is a federal law that covers certain employers and requires that an employee given leave for a serious health condition, but otherwise the situation you've described would not be regulated by law based on the facts provided.
