Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Employment verification
I work for a major employer. Looking to move to new apartment comples. Was called by complex manager and told she was asked to provide a credit card to verify employment. Are companies now allow to charge employees for verification? This seems outrageous.

Re: Employment verification
I do not know of any law against it, but it does seem ridiculous. If I had to guess, I would imagine there was a mistake or misunderstanding. If you haven't already, check your handbook if there is one for a company policy on giving out such information, and ask HR for an explanation.
If there is in fact a charge, consider complaining (politely but firmly) to the VP in charge of HR. This would be an unreasonable and extremely unusual policy, in my experience and IMHO.
