Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Fair to get paid at minimum wage if you do not give 2 weeks notice?

Can an employer cut your pay to state's minimum wage if you do not give a 2 week's notice? The employee handbook says any hours duesaid will be paid at the state's minimum wage level. I got hired in at a very higher rate. I live in Tampa, FL.

Unless you signed something stating that you agreed with it, the handbook is irrelevant.

Your employer can not retroactively lower your pay after you already earned the money.

You should contact the FL Dept. of Labor. If that does not yield results, see an attorney.

Assuming you prevail, despite the relatively small amount involved, an attorney would probably consider taking the case, since the employer would be responsible for his fee.
