Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Got fired for being arrested long time ago

I have been working for a big-name restaurant for about a month now. Someone there just found out that I had been arrested two years prior and told a manager. I was then fired. This arrest occurred two years ago! The charges were dropped almost right away. I never entered a plea. There was no trial or anything. Is it legal to fire someone for being arrested two years prior?

Re: Got fired for being arrested long time ago

You are an at will employee unless you have a contract to the contrary. As such, you can be fired if the employer learns that you have been arrested and does not want to employ you because of that reason.
