Being fired after leaving for re-hab

I went in and told my boss I needed to go to re-hab for presciption pain pills, The day after I left I was fired from my job, and every person in the office some how new I was in re-hab for drug abuse. What are my legal options, I was told you can't be fired for seeking medical help is that true?
