Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Can I be fired for being sick?
I am a host at a resteraunt, recently
I've had bad luck and came down with
a very severe case of the flu. One
week later I now have bronchitis. I
have been forced to miss quite a bit of
work over the past month, can my
employment be terminated for being
sick with an airbourne sickness?

Re: Can I be fired for being sick?
Yes -- in Florida, in the absence of a written employment agreement to the contrary, you ate employed at will. Employees have very few rights (you know who controls that decision) and you can be fired for any reason other than the federally protected ones of race, gender, religion or age. Those are quite difficult to prove.
