Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Harrassing and abusive co-worker

For the past three months I have been enduring verbally abusive behavior and harrassment from a co-worker. We are in a small law firm and must communicate to keep the office working. She one day declared that she could no longer by friendly because I speak to others on the floor. I have reported this behavoir to my boss and his partner on several occations. They have said that they will not do anything about it because they feel it will only get worse. They told me that I will get use to it. I do not want to change jobs. My health is being effected. I have to take medication to combate depression because of the situation. Is there anything that can be done to make someone do something about her. Everyone on the floor agrees that she is out of control. I am not the only one that she treats this way.

Re: Harrassing and abusive co-worker

If her abusive behavior is simply rude and inappropriate, and not being undertaken because of your age, race, gender, national origin, etc., then her conduct-while reprehensible and unprofessional-is NOT illegal. It sounds like you should considering applying for new employment. I understand that isn't necessarily fair, but there's no law prohibiting her from acting rudely.
