Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Hello,

I currently work 40 hours a week, and my employer informed all of us yesterday that he wants us to work every Saturday for two months without pay.

I need to know if this is legal, and if not, what I can tell him as a reply. I live in Sarasota, Florida, and have been with this job for over a year.

Thanks So Much

The answer is "it depends." Employers must pay overtime to employees who are not exempt from the overtime requirement of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). As to whether you are exempt, that's not always an easy question to ask and depends mostly on your specific job duties.

Probably not legal, but you need to speak with someone who handles FLSA cases. If needed I take cases in Sarasota and you could consult withe my office. You could also report the actions to the US Department of Labor and they can investigate if you are owed overtime.
