Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Hello,
My wifes company does volunteer work for habitat for humanity every year. I like the idea and have volunteered myself twice a year for this community service. My wife however, hates it. She is a salary employee for a small company. The owners force this community service on their employees by saying every manager "needs" to participate. They use the same formula to ensure that every manager participates in their team building activites (which is usally skydiving, fishing, etc ). My question is: "Can my wife simply say that she is not going to participate?" She feels doing so would have a very negative impact on her employment status. Its rather tricky situation, because my wife is salary and therefore no overtime wages are neccessary. The company can simply say that she was paid for her time while working on the habitat for humanity site.

This is not tricky, from a legal perspective. Your wife has every right to say 'no' and lose her job. The employer can require anything it wants. This is not illegal.
