Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
I had an interview with a large company. I received a hire packet via FedEx from the company on a week later. The packet included an offer letter which stated my salary, benefits, and instructions on completing a drug test and background check. The next day I faxed back the required documentation to the HR office. That same day I completed the drug test and resigned from my current job.
The following week my boss hired someone to replace me. I spent the week training this person. On Thursday of that week a women from the new jobs HR department called to verify information so that she could finish my background check. On Friday, my last day of employment with my old job, the new jobs HR department contacted me to inform me that they had "made a mistake" and did not mean to send me a hire packet. He told me that they would try to find me a job but could not guarantee it.
Today September 1st, I received a latter by mail that the does not have a job for me and "wishes me the best of luck". I now am unemployed and I am unable to collect unemployment because I quit my last job. The HR department at the company will not respond to my phone calls or e-mails.
Do I have the legal right to a job or at least compensation?
