Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
In January 2015 I started a new graduate RN residency. When the 12 week residency was over we were required to sign a piece of paper stating that if we leave full-time employment within 12 months (except for medical reasons) we would be required to pay a pro-rated $29,000 penalty. I like my job and wish to stay; however, we have a serious issue with the unit being overstaffed forcing our shifts to be cancelled regularly. The last 2 weeks alone I have lost 2 twelve hour shifts (out of 6) due to overstaffing. I have requested a transfer to another unit with more staffing needs, but this is not available right now. Given the fact that I am trying to honor the contract, but unable through no fault of mine, is there any way to get out of it?
