Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Can I legally be fired because of medical reasons?

I recently suffered a heart attack and have been instructed by the doctor to reduce my workload until my condition improves. My boss, the regional manager, has asked for my keys. Which typically only means one thing. I have been given permission to go back to work early, just at a reduced level for a few months. I was told there was no light duty positions in my company. I am the assistant store manager and my regional manager runs the store I work at. I have been employed since June 1st, 2002. Not to sound like a whiner but I would like to think I have some rights in this situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Can I legally be fired because of medical reasons?

You likely were not covered by the FMLA because you were only hired in June '02 & therefore don't meet the minimum hours requirement. As such, it is unfortunate, but there is little you can do if your employment is terminated.
