Re: maternity leave
It depends upon many factors, including the county and city in which you operate. The main federal and state laws that govern your business in this arena should not apply to you based on how you described your business size, but there are snakes. Theere are also, of course, other issues related to setting a precedent, employee morale, fairness, your relationship with your employees, and other business factors that you should consider. I am a Board Certified Labor and Employment Lawyer and am very experienced in these issues. If you are interested in a FREE private online consultation, send me an email to [email protected]

It appears your company is too small to be covered by the Family Medical Leave Act or the Pregnancy Discrimination Act. Does your employee handbook speak to this issue? I suggest you handle this as you would any short term disability. What would you do if any employee had a heart attack? Every company should have an attorney they can call for issues like this. A consultation with an attorney is recommended.
