Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Minor fired for illigitamate complaint

Hi, here is my question.

My 17 year old son has been fired from his job because a customer accused him of being high on the job to his manager. I know kids can get into that kind of stuff but as a mother of 3 teenagers I can tell you that this son is not doing drugs. He is an honor roll student, sections leader for the number 1 high school band in Florida and he volunteers to help other kids learn to play instruments. He & I asked his employer to drug test him so he could at least clear his name and not have this on his employment history and they said no. I want to know if there is anything I can do so that this does not cause him to have a difficult time getting another job. This was his first job and he worked there for 7 months. I think flushing 7 months of work reference down the drain because of a false accusation is horrible and he isn't even allow to clear his name regarding this matter. Please let me know what you think.

There may be some way to "clear" his name. Perhaps a letter to the employer would help resolve the issue. You may not want to get too formal if this can be taken care of without a lot of hoopla. The willingness may depend on a few variables, including the employer size and what kind of evidence they were relying upon. We are close to Palm Harbor and may be able to help.
