Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Multiple Harassment Issues at My Workplace
Im an employee of an organization based in Florida and I work on its private island in the Bahamas. On the island employees are provided a residence and are supposed to be provided reasonable food at a reasonable price. My food orders are being manipulated in many fashions by an administrator that has an unknown grievance with me and my family. My direct supervisor has been notified and was unconcerned. Before when Ive spoken to her, she stated ''If you don't like it, then leave.'' She has also made a point of stating that when a person is fired they are escorted off the island within 3 hours. If this were to happen it would be very traumatic for me and my family. Now it is worse since they have included a friend and fellow employee in their harassment. The fellow employee was even detained in a boat by the administrator on her way home from work where he berated/frightened her, and threatened her job. This was done with the full knowledge of our direct supervisor. I complained to our executive director who was fairly nonchalant and he forwarded the info to my supervisor. I now fear retaliation against me and I am worried about the effects this will have on my job and my family's emotional/financial well-being. Help!

Re: Multiple Harassment Issues at My Workplace
Unfortunately, even if Florida law is applicable to your situation, none of the information provided reveals any illegal conduct. In Florida, the law is employment at-will, meaning that your employer can fire you for any reason at any time--good reason, bad reason or no reason at all. Wish I had better news . . .
