Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Non-compete agreement
I need to see if I need an attorney in Florida or if I need one in Georgia. I live in Florida. However, the company that I was terminated from is in Georgia. I am looking to get out of my non-compete agreement. The way the agreement looks is that it is enforceble in the state of Georgia.

Re: Non-compete agreement
I just posted an answer to another non-compete question in which I said: "Unfortunately, this question is beyond free legal advice, at least IMHO. You need an attorney to review the contract and any other pertinent material, such as a handbook if there is one. If you want to hire an attorney to give you a written opinion on your rights, please feel free to email directly to me."
While I do not generally use this site to try to drum up business, it is true that non-compete contracts require legal analysis and research beyond free advice, especially if you want to try to break the contract. The best way to do that is often to have an attorney negotiate with the former employer.
I also said:"In general, non-competes are valid and must be followed if they are reasonable in time and geography. Two years is considered reasonable in Florida . . . It also usually does not matter that you were fired, unless there really is something wrongful about the discharge. That could affect the contract."
I don't know the geographic restriction in yours, so of course can't comment on it.
If you feel you need an attorney, please feel free to email.
Good luck.
