Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I would appreciate your opinion on the following situation:

It involves the hiring of me as a Housing Counselor at $32,500 per year by a non-profit agency with offices in New Jersey and one in Florida in Fort Pierce, where I worked from 6/1/09. My hiring was done through the Workforce Solutions office in St Lucie West. The then Executive Director walked out on July 6

having not been paid his May salary and his June salary with an NSF check. Mid-July, the Chair, Ann McIntyre came down to Ft pierce for a week and made me the Executive Director. I had already received an

NSF check for my June salary although replaced by a direct deposit to my bank.

My July salary was not received by August 3 ( as specified in the Employee handbook) and although I called her by telephone and sent emails I have not been paid for July so I emailed her my resignation on August 14 to which she replied her acceptance. I have not received payment for that half of a month.

I talked to the State Attorney's office and the Sheriff's office who helped but said they were limited

because the office was in New Jersey. She is listed in SunBiz as the Registered Agent of the offfice in Ft Pierce. I understand that I can sue for 3 times the value of the NSF checks and that puts the value

So sue them. Sounds like they are short of funds and you may not get paid, though.
