Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

No More Paper Pay Checks

I work for Walt Disney World here in Florida. My supervisor had a meeting today and said every cast member ''employee'' must log into the Disney Portal ''A Disney web site'' because this year Disney will no longer give out pay checks. And the only way you will know what you got paid is to log into this web site and check. Question came up what if you do not own a computer -- answer was ''on your time you can check your pay on one of Disney computers''. My question is can they do this? also as of right now the only bank that they offer direct deposit to is the Vista Federal Credit Union -- ''not my bank'' and I'm not even sure my bank will let direct deposit. I do not have direct deposit nor do I want it. I like the freedom of picking what bank I want to go to.

Re: No More Paper Pay Checks

I am not aware of any law that would prohibit the Company from making all pay via direct deposit although I do believe there are regulations on the way in this area. Moreover, your bank unquestionably accepts direct deposits and would therefore process your paycheck. You may, however, ask the Company if they will provide you with a bank account at their bank free of charge since this is THEIR policy.
