Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

pay back training costs

I resigned from my job which included extensive travel to learn the required information to function at my job. Now the company is trying to recoup the costs of my training: i.e., logistics, hotel, flights, car, etc. Is this enforceable under the law (even though I signed a 'contract' with this company) considering I had to travel to learn the specifics of my job duties? Additionally, without signing the contract I would have been without a job.

Re: pay back training costs

If you signed a contract that contains a provision for the company to recoup the costs if you leave, it may be enforceable. There may, however be viable defenses to enforcement. For example, did the company breach the contract first? If so, you may be relieved from your obligations under the contract. There are many other possibilities that might relieve you of this obligation. You probably should contact a lawyer to have them review this contract and advise you of the best way to approach the situation.
