Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

possibly losing job/domestic battery

My dad was arrested and charged with domestic battery. From what little I have read, assault is the threat and battery is acutally touching someone. From what I understand, there were only threats, not physical contact was made in the altercation. He has since been suspended from his job and told that if he was found guity, he'd be fired. I know that Florida is an ''at will'' employment state, but is this completely legal? I just don't see how he can be fired for basically having a verbal altercation with someone, who filed a police report and had him arrested. Any advice?

Re: possibly losing job/domestic battery

In the absence of a contract that would give him special rights, the employer may fire you for being arrested and convicted of assault.
