Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Can a previous employer call/email your current employer to..

My previous employer emailed the president of my company and suggested I owe the company money.

Now it has raised questions about why I might owe them money. Truthfully I have a labor dispute with the company and they have not paid me money due. I do have a laptop in my possesion that was bought for me by my previous employer.

Is it legal for them to contact my current employer and do this?

Anyone can contact anyone to say whatever they want. However, interfering with somebody's business or contractual relationship can sometimes be actionable. Also, defemation is actionable if all elements are met. You say that you have a labor dispute. Have you asked your lawyer about this? If you want to explore further, you may e-mail me at colonpartners.com
