Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Private info given out without permission

I work for a country club in Fla. A co worker recently told me she knows how old I am., that she found the information on the computer all the employees use to charge the members for food & beverage.!

She has now told other employees and I feel uncomfortable with their snyde remarks about my age and being an ''old'' lady. It's embarrassing for me and I never wanted anyone to know my age. Isn't your personal information supposed to be confidential? What are my rights?

Re: Private info given out without permission

You should report to management that someone apparently obtained this information and now you believe you are being subjected to harassment as a result, and potentially being treated differently due to your age. Federal law differs from Florida law somewhat in terms of "age" as a protected characteristic, but if your employer has a policy on discrimination, be sure to follow the channels set forth therein. If your situation does not improve after your complaint, consult with an attorney or contact the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
