Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Probationary Period Extension

I was hired with a 90 day probationary period. Approximately 10 days after the probationary period ended I was informed that the company wanted to extend my probationary period another 2 months. Is this legal and do I have some type of recourse?

Re: Probationary Period Extension

It is legal unless you are being treated differently than other employees based on race, age, sex, religion, disability or other protected category (or it violates a personal or labor contract).

In truth, though, unless you have a contract you are always probationary because you are "at will." That means you can quit or be fired at any time, for any reason (except the discriminatory ones), with or without notice. So I wouldn't worry about the "probationary" title. It really means nothing. Just do your work as best you can and don't give the company any reason to discharge you or take adverse action. (And if you know the reason why they extended the probation, try to address it positively.)
