Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Promotion taken away
I started w/ a marketing firm in Feb. 2003. My performance was exceptional and was offered a management position. This position was to begin June 16th. Today (June 12th), I was told that the position was no longer available to me. Offered to a single younger man. When I asked why, I was told that it was because I was a single mother. The president of the company told me that he had concerns about my child care. Some nights I would be asked to stay until 7:00PM. Child care has NEVER been an issue. In fact, I am weeks away from a $500 bonus for never missing work. Later in the conversation he changed his tune and said that I would make more $ staying in my present position and as a single mother, I needed it. Grant it, in this business, managers make more $ than representatives. Does this violate EEOC laws/rules?

Re: Promotion taken away
If you lost income and/or benefits as a result of not getting this other position, it could be unlawful. However, if you will truly earn more money as a manager, what's the exact situation?
