Proper Employment Acceptance
I would like to know if a fire dept hires someone do they need to advertise the job first or can they just hire someone for say a position without allowing others to apply ?

Under federal and state law a fire department does not have to advertise open positions. However, most are required to under their specific employment policies, employment policies of the city that hires them or a local union agreement.
