Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

I was recently laid off my job because "business is slow" I applied for medicaid and had to have some papers filled out by my previous employer. When I picked up the paperwork they had put reason for termination "work performance". Is it ok for them to make me look bad on paper when that wasn't the reason they gave me?
