Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Relocated for a job, never got to work
I was offered a 6-month job contract in Palm Beach County. This was with a headhunting firm who found a position for me with a client. I was living in the mid-west and decided to relocate for this offer, so I rented out my condo and moved my possessions into a warehouse. One day before my flight, the representative for my employer notified me that I might be starting work later than planned because they did not yet get the necessary signatures on the purchase order, but that I should just fly in anyway as it would probably take 2-3 days to get the sign-offs.
I waited in a motel for a month as my employer kept telling me to be patient. Eventually, they found out that the CEO of the client refused to sign the purchase order. I had no job. The representative who had neglected to get the proper sign-offs either resigned from the company or was fired at this time.
My contract with my employers specifies that they are not liable for any relocation costs and they also have the right to release me at any time. Do I have any case against them if I feel that the entire contract was prematurely written up, as the job position it entailed was never legally procured?

You may have a claim for fraudulent misrepresentation against the headhunting firm. Seek a consult with an employment law attorney.
