Can a resturant deduct money from your wages and say it is for your meal if you do not want to eat there

Deductions from an employee's paycheck must be authorized by the employee before an employer can take the money, except for taxes.
If an employer has taken money from your wages, you should look at two things. First, look at the amount. Look to see if it has taken your hourly wage under the minimum wage amount ($7.21 for Florida). If so, there could be a violation. Also if it reduced your overtime wages, there could be a violation.
Second, if you the deduction is improper- for something you did not ask for or receive, this could be a possible theft.
