Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
my rights
While at work on a 7-31-08, I had an allergic reaction and had to leave. Next day, I went to Dr., got meds, they were not helping except by making me sleep. I notified employer of this! I started steroids the next week, they were working. I kept in touch with my employer, explained that these new meds were working,on 8-13-08 it was agreed that I would return on 8-18-08, she said to call and confirm on 8-15-08 that things were still going well. I called her the morning of 8-15-08,received her voicemail, left a message that I was better, would be in Monday and to call me back when she could. That afternoon, she returned my call and informed me that they had made a decision to let me go, ''due to lack of communication''. I was shocked. I had even tried to discuss with her whether I needed to take a temp leave of abscence when the first meds were not working. Her reply was that she didn't understand was I was saying! ''She'' has been with the company for many years, but worked remotely from her home in another state, until recently. I liked her, but questioned her feelings for me. I was an excellent employee and was even told that while be let go. Now, I think they are trying to deny me unemployment compensation. Do I have any rights here?

Re: my rights
Florida is not a particularly worker friendly state (the Republicans control). Unless you have a contract that would prevent it (which is unlikely), they can let you go.
