Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

School District Desires to Settle Contract out of Court

I'm a teacher. Our contracts are based on years taught and degree status. I worked for 5 years in a S.FL school district and my teaching contract was never changed to Professional Status for the 2003-2004 school year. I was non-reappointed by the principal at the end of the 2003-2004 school year, which could not have happened had my contract status been professional. I moved to a different county and was briefly employed until the previous county sent a negative recommendation resulting in my immediate termination/resignation. I've been unemployed since September 2004. Bottom line: The previous county is offering a settlement for $25,000. The move from where I was to where I am now cost several hundred dollars, a $300 rent increase +deposit, utility deposit, and phone transfer charges. I could not obtain any teacher related work where I reside now due to the defamatory comments made by the previous county. Taxes must be deducted from the amount offered; I had no medical coverage and my daughter had to use Medicare/Medicaid; my vehicle payment was late; rent was late; the careless acts of that school district has caused extreme distress. I feel that the amount isn't just. What are my chances in court if we can't agree on an amount?
