Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Stand buy duty on weekend (pay or no pay)

I work in a shop that has a union,in our latest contract the company says that every weekend one employee from each department must carry a pager so that he may be called to come out, if a job comes in to work on. He is responsible to call the shop from 3:30 pm Friday to 7:00 am Monday if he is paged he has 1 hour to call the shop and one hour after that to be at the shop no matter what time of the day or night, If you don't respond you can be fired. There is no pay for this duty and it limits your freedom on weekends. My question is, is this legal buy my state or federal labor law, I would think there should be some monitary reimbursment for the weekend.

Thank you for your help Cliff

If this is what your Contract provides, then it is legal. There is no law governing this issue and since you chose the Union to negotiate the terms of your employment, this is something that you've got to do.
