Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
I was terminated for requesting reasonable accommodations. I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been employed at a job for 2 months. My workload has been excessive. I have been having to take my work home with me and work 20 hours off the clock each week to be able to complete my job duties; my supervisor not only knew about it, but expected for me to do this. I was fired Friday for requesting the following reasonable accommodation for the 5th time in a span of 2 months:
"To be provided assistance in any area of my job ; so I would not be required to have to work a minimum of 25 hours per week off the clock to complete my job duties; because the excessive workload was negatively impacting my ability to manage my type 1 diabetes and negatively effecting my overall health.
Every time that I have asked for assistance from my coworkers, my supervisor makes excuses for why they are exempt from their job duties and why it's my responsibility to do their jobs. I asked for a reasonable accommodation on Friday for the 5th time and I was fired and told "You can't have things go your way". And my supervisor told me that she didn't have to give me anymore reason, because they are an at will organization. Do I have a case? If so what should I do now?

Sounds like you could have an ADA case and maybe a claim for unpaid overtime. Feel free to call or e-mail me to discuss your case further. [email protected].
