Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Termination Laws

While I was working and responsible for all transactions in my establishment I allowed for a transaction to occur that was in the amount of $700. I asked the customer for a credit card. The customer only had a check, which we don't take, as their only form of payment. Under sususpicion that this was a fradulant check I called the police and they recommended that I not take the check and after giving them the customers DL# the decided to send an officer and his supervisor to back me up when I had to tell the customer we couldn't take his check. My boss was told immediatly about this and today I was called into a meeting about it. Our company took a loss of property because of this. I was told that if I wasn't me I would be fired. I have police report, the dictation from the officer that recieved the call, and the products ordered. My questions is could I have been rightfully terminated? (Me refers to I am close to owner with out actually being realted)

Re: Termination Laws

In Florida, employers unfortunately are permitted to terminate employees for any reason at any time - - a good reason, a bad reason, or no reason at all. Accordingly, while it seems to be unfair that you were terminated, it does not seem to be illegal.
