Unfair charges

Is it legal for and employer to charge employees for items a customer was not charged for? Is it legal for and employer to fire an employee for not working a shift for another employee that was fired?

Yes an employer could have such policies although they would have to be enforced in a non-discriminatory manner. That is to say, all employees get the same disapline for the same offense regardless of race, gender, religion, national origin, age, disability.
