Vacation Time

We have an employee who quit his job. He said he was leaving in a few weeks. One night he packed his tools and nevr came back. He said it was just too much of a commute. Are we obligated to pay him his week vacation time.

It depends on what your firm policy is. Here at my firm, for instance, vacation time is "earned" as an employee works; therefore, when they leave they have already earned that paid time away and we pay them. Some places, though, vacation time is advanced.
