Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

video surveillance

We are City of Tampa government emplyees(all retired police officers who past backgrounds and polygraphs) and we are THE ONLY employees(out of 97) who are being surveilled for behavior.

We have a Union and this issue is a mandatory bargining issue. It should have been approved prior to installing the cameras...but it was not.

Our union agrees, however they do not wish to enforce the rules or fight the city on this.

What can we do?

Thanks!

Re: video surveillance

I have more questions than answers for you at this time. But the bottom line is that it will depend on the places where you are being surveiled and how much notice you all had about this, as well as the availability of private rights under your CBA. I suggest that you consult with an attorney, although most lawyers who specialize in this area like me will charge you for a consultation, since you may be better off in the long run. I provide representation throughout the state of Florida and can coordinate phone consultations so that you don't have to drive to Miami. You can contact us at [email protected]
