Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

wages and tips

My daughter works for a car wash and tips given to workers are put in a box. At the end of the day the tips are counted by management. Only management knows the total amount and the workers are given $1.00/hr in tips with their $6.00/hr pay. The remainder of the tips are to buy supplies for the car wash. Is this legal to take the tips meant for the workers and fir the company to keep them to help pay wages and buy supplies.

Re: wages and tips

It will all depend upon a number of factors, including the agreement with the employer, and whether your daughter is getting at least minimum wage. I suggest you or your daughter consults with an attorney. Our firm offers consultations via the Internet for a nominal fee. If interested, please e-mail us at [email protected]
