Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Right to work records

I was recently fired from my job of 5 years with no reason. I have never missed a day of work and always willing to work over time and to fill in for others.

I ask for a copy of my personal file at work and was told that it was company property, I know you can get court papers, doctor records, lease agreements, ect.. Is it legal for a company to with hold my request? I think I should be allowed a copy of my work files, after all, it is MY file, or is there something they do not want me to see?

Re: Right to work records

I know of no law which would entitle you to those records, unless they were being used in a court proceeding or other official proceeding, in which they were somehow relevant to a case. The same way if you wrote down records about your bosses everyday, would they be entitled to those records and claim them as their property? I don't think so. I am not saying that is the case, because I don't practice in this area of the law, but I am just saying based on the facts that you provided thus far, I know of no basis for entitlement to the documents you are requesting at this stage.
