Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida
Right to work
I am a software engineer at a major cell phone manufacturer and was offered a new position as a software applications developer at another cell phone manufacturer about 5 miles from my current job. I took the weekend to think about it, then called to accept the offer but the HR representative told me my current company had sued the new company (over the weekend) creating a hiring freeze. The HR rep continued that the offer was still valid, but that I couldn't accept yet.
I did not sign a non-compete, and my questions is if my current employer's actions are legal, and what if any action I can take. It's very frustrating because there is a third company in the area, and a co-worker applied for a position at the third company, and had the same thing happen. I feel like my current employer is unfairly manipulating my right to work and pursue other positions.

Re: Right to work
I don't see any case. They are not preventing you from working. The other company decided that they aren't going to hire while there is litigation. They have every right to do so. I see nothing in your post that the suit is about you. If you don't like your job, you are free to work for whomever will hire you.
