do employers have a right to suspend or discharge you for family emgency and swear at them when thay have told basicly tuff we need you at work.

In Florida an employer can, in most cases, discharge an employee who does not report for work. There are a few limited exceptions when discharging such an employee would be illegal. Do you have a union contract that would protect you? Or, if the employer only treated employees of a certain sex, race, religion, national origin or age in this manner, that might be illegal. If the "family emergency" you speak of was a medical emergency, then if your employer was large enough, you may be protected by the Family Medical Leave Act. If you believe one of these exceptions may apply to you it might be in your best interests to speak with a local attorney.
