Legal Question in Employment Law in Florida

Several years ago an employer of mine forced multiple employees including myself to attend Scientology training excersizes in order to maintain our positions with the company. We were made to attend seminars and study Scientology material in order to apply it to our positions to manipulate the patients into continuing treatment plans. Is there a certain amount of time in order to file a complaint? I was unaware of this possibility at the time and was recently reminded of it when I ran into an old colleague. They continue to do this now and I think it is extremely innapropriate as I know it made me feel very uncomfortable at the time sometimes even like I might be forced to join a cult. Thank you for your time and answer.

First of all, I have some personal experience with this very same issue. It is clearly illegal for an employer to force you to go to "church." However, in order to bring suit against your former employer, you would need to show that you were personally damaged, and sue for an amount of money to compensate you for the damage you suffered. This is different than if an employer is engaged in illegal practices, the dept. of labor may take their own actions (fines, sanctions, put them out of business, etc.).

I did not hear you say that you were "damaged" within the legal sense of the word (although, I realize that association with the "church" is damaging in the common sense).

I did not consider the statute of limitations here. The time to bring any claim you have may have expired. If you are damaged, you should immediately seek an attorney to preserve any claim you may have.
