Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Is my apartment owner liable

Can I sue my apartment complex for negligence? We have had a string of robberies in the last 3-4 weeks. They have done nothing to try to prevent any more from happening. The police don't seem to care if they find the person responsible. It is someone who knows the schedule of the tenants because it always happens when nobody is home. My apartment was broken into. I came home to find it, the window had already been boarded up by the manager and nobody cared to notify my or the police about it. Is this enough for a negligence suit? Or what can I do? I had several items stolen.

Re: Is my apartment owner liable

Your post does not, to me, indicate that the apartment has been negligent. The apartment is not required to prevent robberies. They must take reasonable steps for security, but it is unclear what you think that they could or should have done that would have prevented the crime in your case. Of course, once they saw the broken window, it appears that they did act reasonably to board it up to prevent further loss.
