Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
Assignable Commercial Lease
My husband and I purchased a laundry mat in Florida and sold it a couple of years later
to someone else. The only way we could sell the business was to sign an agreement that our names would be on the lease to protect the owner if the new owner did not pay his rent. The new owner turned around and sold it to another party who is Not paying the rent. The landlord served us, the party we sold the business to and the party we purchased it for a summons of $18k. We did not consent or were advised of this purchase. One attny tells me we are liable and the second attny said we are not. I am very confused.
