I need to break my rental lease due to economical hardship, what could the landlord do to me?

Depending on what your lease states, he could charge you rent until he can re-rent the unit.

Check your lease and be sure to give notice as required in it. You may have to pay for additional rent until the landlord finds a new tenant. Consider speaking with your landlord. If the landlord agrees to let you move out at no extra charge, be sure to put it in a written, signed agreement.
