Broke lease due to termites. Now we aren't getting our security back. How come?

termites is not normally a sufficient ground to break a lease. you need to have your lease reviewed to determine if this was justification. normally a security deposit is for damages to the rental unit. sometimes a landlord keeps the sums to cover other damages even though that is not correct. you may have a claim for the return of the deposit if the statutory dictates were not followed. You may still be liable for additional rental due to the breaking the lease. seek some legal guidance with all your paperwork.
