Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I broke my lease which I paid every month on time ($850) including the last one and gave a $840 deposit which landlord kept for breaking lease on contract just stated that deposit would be returned after house was turned in and damages were deducted. He is trying to charge me $500 (apart from the $840 deposit he kept ) saying its for damages and I asked what the deposit was for and he said for him to keep because we broke the contract but no where on the contract does it say that, do I have to pay him $500? He says he will take us to court

did you have an agreement to end lease early? was that in writing? does your original leae provide for damages if ended early? have an attorney review your paperwork

Rental leases are very tricky - take to an attorney and have him/her review it. If it is not in writing they he can not keep your deposit. Also he has 15 days to give you a list of the damages with the costs to make repairs.
