Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

Change the Locks to remove deadbeat roommates

I was recently in a situation where I had a guy move into my spare room.

We had an oral agreement but he was not on my lease.

At the very beginning of the time he started paying his rent late, and costing me money. Then he decided that he shouldnt have to pay me anything and stopped paying.

we had an agreement that he would leave on a sunday. He never left.

On wedsday I changed the locks after being told he didn't have the legal right to be there since he wasnt in my lease.

Later that night, I let him in to get his stuff and leave and he decided he wasnt going anywhere.

The police then told me since I had allowed him to stay there and he set up residency I had to go through a regal eviction to get him out regardless of the lease.

He ended up agreeing to leave and I paid for his hotel room to get him out.

Since I kicked him out and changed the locks on him without going though a legal eviction, does he have any legal recourse against me?

Am I in any danger of being sued?

Re: Change the Locks to remove deadbeat roommates

No, since he left voluntarily. Give him back any property he left.
