Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida
After checking my documents, I stand corrected: I had a one year lease set to expire 7/18 in Broward County, FL. On 6/29 I notified the landlord that I would not be renewing the lease and vacating the apartment on 8/1. I was charged for the entire month of July instead of a pro rate which I paid. The landlord is now reporting me to collections for damages of not giving enough notification. Is this possible?

Again, what does the lease state. 30 days notice or 60 days notice?
It depends what the lease says. Does it auto-renew? If you vacate on 8/1 then you would have to pay for July as you occupied the apartment in July. Also, if the lease expires on 7/18 (in the middle of the month), then you were effectively a hold over tenant subject to the original lease terms.
