Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Florida

I cosigned an apartment lease for my son for a period of 12 months. after the 12 month lease expired my son resigned for an additional 6 month lease without my consent. The apartment complex had switched over to new ownership and took his word and signature. my son broke his 6 month lease and the apartment management put the balance into collection under my name even though i had no knowledge of this new contract. I feel this is illegal and should have been sent to collection under my sons name. what are my legal rights in this manner.

Whether or not the apartment owner can hold you responsible for the payments due under the 6 month extension period will depend on the guarantee language contained in the lease and whether your guarantee of payment is for the initial term of the lease only or whether same is in effect during all lease extension periods as well.
